I have used them with great results. Years ago I used Winchester 1 oz. number 6's for ducks and 7 1/2 for dove and quail. My Christmas present when I was 12 was a Model 12 28 ga. with a case of number 6's. The next day I was happily using them in our duck blind. If they would let me shoot them over decoys I still be shooting them but steel shot ended my small bore duck hunting.

When I reload for upland game I'd rather have a faster 7/8 or even 3/4 ounce load and limit range of shots. The one ounce loads I have tried tend to be fairly slow, in the 1125 fps range and were adequate but not great in field conditions.
