I recently acquired a Springfield 1922 M1 serial 8517, I assume it was a sales rifle as it is in a NRA stock and is in the correct serial range. It is really dirty, wood is almost black and exposed metal is brown. Were these rifles finished like the NRA Sporters? (rust blue and bright bolt) I plan on cleaning up the stock and metal, I cleaned a spot on the stock and it is a nice red brown under the grime. The rifle is very original and I believe fairly rare. What is your thinking?

I learn something every day, and a lot of times it's that what I learned the day before was wrong
