Hi JC,

Unfortunately hunting season is over for pheasant so getting the leftovers will have to wait until next season. If you make it up north during hunting season let me know and we will set something up. G & H does have excellent clays courses during the off season.
If you make it closer to NJ let me know and we will meet up.

Pennsylvania has a large number of old log homes built of chestnut logs. Almost all have been sided or expanded and remodeled to the extent that the original log home is not obvious. Once you know what to look for you will see an amazing number of these homes. Not that many folks would let you dismantle their house to make furniture.

My mother (born in 1942) was raised in such a home that never had indoor plumbing. My grandfather built a new home on the barn foundation (still has chestnut beams exposed in the basement)when my mother was a teenager. The old homestead was torn down by my uncle when I was about 10 y.o. (1976) and the pile of logs put to the torch.......

Jeff, what a beautiful gift. Will, great work!

Mike and Rabbit,

My house was built n 1926 and has chestnut trim on all windows and doors and mouldings. Almost all other homes of this vintage in our area have the same. Since the chestnut blight no trees can be grown beyond about 18", hopefully they will figure it out.

Jeff,

I still own the acreage in PA and it has alot of 18" chestnuts on it.......

I spoke to a forester and he mentioned a genetically altered chestnut that is immune to the blight. Even if that is true, it will be out great-grandchildren who will get to see them in full glory.

The home my mother was raised in was built in the early 19th century. Two stories, two rooms per story. All exterior walls built of chestnut logs and sided with chestnut planks. I watched it burn with no idea that I was watching a waste of a valuable resource.
