Anybody have recent experience with this subject? For a while it was 2 boxes of shells, then it became a weight thing. Any idea of the current thinking at TSA? The knock on many of the better upland game guns is the need for either 2 1/2-inch shells or really light loads, neither of which is readily available in the hinterlands of this country. Unless I can drive to it, I either slowly build a stockpile of shells at my usual destinations or I take along a backup that can digest anything that might be locally available.

Canada has a limit of 10 boxes before customs charges kick in. US air carriers change the rules too often to rely on any stale information...Geo

I think Canada has a 200 shell limit.

I think Daryl is right, come to think of it. I carried a full case (20 boxes) up there years ago and remembered the 10 box rule in effect at that time.
Upshot is don't depend on old information. They change this stuff constantly. Ask the airline when you are ready to take the trip and have your outfitter advise on current Country rules...Geo

You say you go to the same places on a regular basis.
Plan ahead & order a case of ammo from RST to be shipped to someone you know where you are headed. RST will split cases so you could have multiple different loads if needed.
Why hassle with the airlines at all?

If you're going to fly with ammo, check the individual airline's website. Rules vary, both on flying with guns and with ammo.

Good suggestion Mr. Brown. Delta airlines say 11 lbs. of ammo (5kg) per flight. So with ...7/8 oz. 2 1/2-inch RST 16s weighing 1 lb 14.6 oz. per box (just weighed one) that means roughly 5-boxes of shells. God.... I hope I can burn 5-boxes this trip on birds.

Hauling up some goodies in a cooler this trip that required some dry ice. My 4 boxes of shells also happen to be in the cooler (long story). Anyway, dry ice now freaks out the airlines as well. Not allowed more than 5 lbs. Thankfully I only had 3 (and they took my word for it). If I could, I'd never fly on these airlines again.

I am a retired major Airline Captain with over 30 years as a line pilot flying worldwide. The rules in place are primarily common sense to protect everybody.
As far as Federal Aviation laws that burden the public, such as ridiculous security measures inacted by the Feds, you have to look no further than your voting record. The list is very long.
Enjoy your trip.

Dry ice affects the health of animals carried along with your cargo. I'm not sure what your cargo is that really needs dry ice.
