"... to his late Majesty" is an expression the Victorians used a good deal. Some of them would do so for years, even decades after the monarch had died.
It is therefore merely helpful in gauging a year, rather than definitive.

Daryl, interesting gun. I have seen Moore & Grey guns with external dummy hammers as cocking pieces before but never to look like pin-fires.
Cracking M/L you've got there SKB. As Tim says, they would use that for advertising for years. I have one made in 1875 that refers to being Maker to The Late Prince Consort. Albert who died in 1861. Lagopus.....

Thank you Tim. My thoughts are it may be pretty early due to the fact that it is a 2 groove rifle and the serial number is 3 digits. Lagopus, It is not mine yet.....
