Who buys new underwear every year? I still have underwear that is from the Clinton era... Mine are full of burn holes from eating baked beans and pickled eggs.

I buy 3x3" GI cleaning patches, cotton flannel on one side, in batches of 1000. I really like them.

Please let me make your lives easier. These work real well in break open 12ga shotguns. You just need rod or dowel of appropriate diameter not too thin (will pierce pad) or too thick (too tight a fit). Inexpensive product from beauty department. [img:left] [/img]

I use 2x2 non sterile gauze sponges. Unfold it once and it's a strip about 2x4 inches. The ones that say they are a rayon blend don't fray like the all cotton ones. I haven't picked any up in a while, but it looks like a box of 2000 is still under $20 mailed to the house, and no scissors time unless I need a smaller patch.

Wasn't there a big deal a few years ago about a company which made undies for prisons, and sold the scraps for gun cleaning patches, and everyone was raving about them?

Back to the Scott Pro paper towels. I fold four towels together before using scissors to cut the strips. Makes a lot of patches in just about 60 seconds flat. To use I just wrap a solvent soaked piece around a bronze brush and swab away.

I bought electric scissors from Ebay for about $6 a few years ago. It was an old German one from the sixties. It buzzes and makes quick work of old t-shirts or sheets.
So many guns, so little time!

I also use the blue shop towels. I get mine from O'Rielly Automotive....their brand. Can't beat them. I use a 1/4 to a 1/2 towel in each barrel depending on gauge. You can use them dry after the wire brush, wrapped around the brush as shown above or wet with a load of CLP. I just wad them up and tap them thru a few times with a wooden cleaning rod. Learned that many years ago from an old British instruction video I saw while at a long weekend of instruction at Woodcock Hill in PA.

Ted, our mothers must have been cut from the same cloth because she would tell me the same thing about wearing clean undies! So did my grandmother.
I use old t-shirts cut up for my cleaning patches.
