A Brit shooter might also want to think twice before ordering a sub-6 1/4 12 bore if he does much driven shooting. You don't do a whole lot of carrying when shooting driven birds, but if you're talking something on the order of a 300 bird day, you will do a lot of shooting. A somewhat heavier gun to help soak up recoil would probably be a better choice.

So, it was a 12, a very light 12 at that. Perhaps Mr. Thomas did more rough shooting than driven.
Eightbore, that is as good a reason to own a gun as any.
Does anyone know where Gough Thomas's gun is today?

Best,

That Atkin of Garwood's has been for sale in the last few years, can't pin down when just now.

I recall seeing it advertised as his, don't recall if was a dealer internet ad or one of the auction house catalogs....

Ted

If he did much driven shooting at all, he would have to do a LOT of rough shooting to pull the trigger as many times. I've had a lot of good seasons on wild pheasants in the States, but not many where I'll kill as many as I do shooting 3 driven days in Scotland.
