Mine is different, same frame profile only I never seen a screw in the middle of the top tang positioned like that on a Nitro Special. It's always in the back positioned behind the safety holding the piece which accepts the draw bolt through the back of the stock.

That looks more like a Flues than a Nitro Special to me. What is the S/N?

My previous one had the bolt in a different position too.

Serial is 271xxx. Figured it to be a 1929 nitro from that.

I went over the Blueing with an appraiser with a loupe and he pointed out many reasons why it had not been reblued (as that was my first question). It is from the factory this way, in his opinion.

Also, perhaps worth mentioning, the only stamp on the top of the barrel is "smokeless powder steel". The finish isn't without blemishes (albeit small ones), I just didn't focus in on them for the pics.

That S/N is also consistent with a 1916 Flues.
Do you have pics of the action flats and barrel flats? The Smokeless Powder Steel markings on the top of the barrel are also consistent with a Flues. The dog engraving as well.

The Lefever Nitro Specials I have and have handled all said Lefever on top of the barrels. I guess it could be a NS but I doubt it.

That's a Flues. I knew that didn't look right. In my opinion a better built and finished gun then a Nitro Special.

Damn... 1916! How did it it survive in this condition? Clearly it is worth more than $500 (in 16 gauge particularly). I had a really good feeling about this one... Maybe because 16 is my lucky number... Didn't think it would end up being the year of manufacture as well!

RST lite is a good choice. Polywad Vintager or Polywad Doublewide are also good choices.

Because they're tough old gals!!! You'll see.

And get them gold pimped out triggers off of her, that's sacrilege.

But look how well it matches my squirrel gun like this!



Maybe I should go in the opposite direction... Gold rims for my f150 and gold laces for my boots...
