Hey Cadet I got your email, I will respond shortly.

Yeti, thanks for the pics. I didn't realize how alike they were. The barrels are 26 3/4" but don't look cut. Another inch would have been nice, but it still swings pretty nicely.

Dave K, I didn't get your email either! Technology can be a pain. I have trouble with my email at times, but try howeaa@bc.edu. I think I will take her to Steve Hutton in your great state for a check up and any repairs.

Thanks for all in input and info guys. Any idea when this one was made? Did FN make many SxS? What do they sell for?

Thanks

Alex

The unusual wood grain you ask about is known as 'spalting' or 'spalted. It is a natural variant, caused I think by fungi [but I could be wrong], sometimes going to punk, but not always by any means. It is often very desirable and is used for wood turning of bowls that are sold as art work because of their beauty and the difficulty of turning it without breaking it. I do not think it is often found on a gunstock and I would treasure it accordingly.

The wood reminds me of what luthiers call "bear law". Probably the same as the spalting tw mentioned.

The myth is the tree was clawed by a bear, healed itself and the healed wood is denser than then normal, giving better tone. Sounds good but probably BS.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.
