Can anyone recommend some British gunshops? A website would be appreciated as well.

I have had direct dealings with both Francis Lovel and Graham McKinlay and would recommend either without hesitation. Toby Barclay who posts here is also a very knowledgeable dealer of vintage guns.

No, not that high. I am looking for a good sidelock (maybe a boxlock) and I am ok with sleeved since you can get more for your money that way. I am not starting a collection, rather something I have wanted for a long time.

Unless you're looking for something really special (or you see something unusual), I would recommend sticking with dealers in the US.

Importing stuff is rarely worth it. It's expensive and time consuming. A lot of times you can get better deals in the US, and getting the gun is much less hassle.

For the most part, the UK dealers aren't worth the effort. And from what I've seen, a lot of the guns they're selling are pretty worked over - lots of reblacking, refinishing, recheckering etc - and overpriced.

Also, I know more than one person who has been surprised by unmentioned warts once their guns arrived.

If that happens, what are you going to do?

Of course, I'm assuming you're in the US.

I recommend Kirby Hoyt- have purchased from him, he's honest and follows up on his sales, and he ships free to any Veteran, his way of saying thanks for our Service- that counts mucho with me-
