I sure wouldn't trust any dealer that's across an ocean from me.....you'll be stuck with what ever you buy.

Fact is most all vintage gun dealers will try to get by with what they can....

What's it matter if it takes the average jOe 6 months for one of his buddies at the gun club to spot a major screw up ?

Last British chap of a gun dealer I talked to was going to measure the depth of the pits inside the barrel of the gun in question...until I told him he was full of British chit.

Don, seeing that you posted, I thought you'd come up with a system to rate gun dealers. When you do, let us know! smile

When I import guns I always bring in no less than 4 and really prefer to do 5

The Brits have a term that they use, they call it "tidy" which means all the part are there.

When I was buying a lot of guns from Andrew Litt, I said to him about all the English guns that were being shipped to the US from various dealers and asked him why. His answer was this: We are sending the stuff over that we can not get rid of here!

I've had Graham Mackinlay do work for me on a couple of guns purchased at auction and couldn't have been more pleased. You could certainly trust him to give you an honest appraisal of a gun for sale. Visited his gunroom last year and concluded that much of the really quality stuff that passes through the hands of reputable dealers sells before it gets listed on the web, so if you know what you want get the word out there but don't expect a bargain for a top quality gun.
