Distance across the barrel breech face is 2.165 inches Distance between the firing pins is 1.090 inches (using snap caps in both barrels and measuring) Distance between the barrel hook and barrel breech face is 2.267 inches SN is 249772, so 1914 manufacture. On the barrel flats besides the serial number is a 1 on one side and a faint 4 on the other side. Since I don't have any other 16s or 20s in my collection for comparison, no clue if that would work or not on a 16 frame. Just figured others on this forum may have considered this before and tried it and might know that there is a good chance that a 16 ga receiver would work or not.

If I get a chance tomorrow I will measure my 16 Ga. Flues but I doubt very much that it will work. The 1 and 4 are choke designations-1 IC, 4 Full.

Jason if you are interested in a 20ga Flues to put the barrels on contact me. I have decent one (#289100) that the barrel extension has came off and lost. I am not sure but I think these guns changed somewhat over time, whether the barrels are inter-changeable or not, not sure. At any rate I am sure we can work something out as I am never going to get to it for repair. My email is in my profile or PM.

I just went thru the cabinet and measured Flues models as follows:
Model/gauge , ser #, Width at BF, Firing Pins CTC, FrameWidth@Breech , Forend Iron Width Flues 20ga, #182974 , 2.013 , 0.968 , 1.382 , 1.370 Flues 20ga, #208430 , 2.070 , 1.041 , 1.373 , 1.315 Flues 20ga, #280972 , 1.903 , 0.977 , 1.366 , 1.332 Flues 12ga, #182124 , 2.355 , 1.121 , 1.498 , 1.438 Flues 12ga, #202500 , 2.410 , 1.187 , 1.496 , 1.422 Flues 12ga, #358962 , 2.333 , 1.155 , 1.448 , 1.425 Flues 12ga, #377767 , 2.315 , 1.121 , 1.453 , 1.411
Somewhere between Ser# 208k and 280K the forend latch and barrel lug were changed from a "J" spring to a sliding latch so if you attempt barrel swaps keep that in mind also.

John E, Is width at BF for barrels flats? Where exactly on the receiver did you measure this? Thanks, Jeff

John - thanks very much for this. This is helpful. I stuck my barrel dimensions in with your table. Seems like my Firing Pins CTC is pretty close to your measurements, but my barrel width compared to your Width at BF is off more. I have some pretty wide barrels. I can't see having a BF width that was considerably less than the barrel width, so I'm guessing around my serial number they had a bit wider frame. If the original frames for my barrels had a BF width closer to your dims, then there would have been a step that would not be desirable.
I still don't think this fully confirms if I could fit these barrels to a 16ga frame or not, but I'm leaning toward not being able to. The wider barrel width might suggest they could fit a wider 16 ga frame, but I would expect the firing pin CTC to be wider for a 16ga. JE Flues 20ga, #182974 , 2.013 , 0.968 , 1.382 , 1.370, 1909 JE Flues 20ga, #208430 , 2.070 , 1.041 , 1.373 , 1.315, 1911 JN Flues 20ga, #249772 , 2.165 , 1.090 , N/A , N/A , 1914 JE Flues 20ga, #280972 , 1.903 , 0.977 , 1.366 , 1.332, 1917 JE Flues 12ga, #182124 , 2.355 , 1.121 , 1.498 , 1.438 JE Flues 12ga, #202500 , 2.410 , 1.187 , 1.496 , 1.422 JE Flues 12ga, #358962 , 2.333 , 1.155 , 1.448 , 1.425 JE Flues 12ga, #377767 , 2.315 , 1.121 , 1.453 , 1.411
Looks like I'm probably sticking to finding a suitable 20ga frame and not looking for 16 ga frames.
Thanks,
Jason

Jason,
I don't think mfg date had much to do with the frame/barrel dimensions. The frames were still being shaped by filing and the end-use (quail, pheasant, duck) for the gun dictated the barrel weight and thus dimensions. Some of the 20ga guns were lightened to the point (5-1/2lbs) that frames were cracking. The breech balls could be spherical to almost flat blades. Besides the firing pin spacing you need to consider the distance from the barrel flats to the pin centers also. A LOT to match up.
Wish I had a Flues 16ga (working on that). I do have a Minier that I could check.
John
