Lost my right eye as a child. I am a right hand shooter. I am a fair shoot with a handgun. I like to shoot trap with some of my restored double guns. Tried it once many years ago. Anyone else shoot right handed with left eye? Retired now with lots of free time.

There was a well known gun writer that shot very well with a
stock similar to that shown. First name was John, last one is forgotten

I have never even seen one of these crossover stocks on a shotgun, much less shot one. However, it would seem physically impossible for one that is configured like that shown by Greener in the bottom drawing, exhibiting extreme cast, not to recoil offensibly into the shooters cheek, and also slide the butt outward across shooter's shoulder. The Parker pictured has this type stock. The Browning looks to be more like the top Greener drawing.

I have seen men who mount a shotgun improperly, with a body stance that faces to the right of the axis of the bore (rt. handed shooter), have horrible bruising from recoil upon shooting high volume, even with a 20 ga. gas gun and 7/8 oz. loads. This is from the gun sliding on the shoulder in recoil, and has the same effect as would the stock in the bottom drawing. One person was still bleeding through his shirt, because of his poor mount and stance, three days after returning from Cordoba.

Perhaps Bill will comment, he shoots crossovers.

I have shot crossover guns for quite a while, and seem to be a sucker for anyone who has one for sale. I shoot crossovers by Cogswell and Harrison, a pair by William Evans, three Parkers, a Krieghoff, and a 682 Beretta. I also have used the Carey sidesighter. After losing most of the sight of my right eye, I shot NSSA skeet lefthanded for one competition season. At the beginning of the next season, I used the Carey sight. I ran 100 straight in my first shoot using that device. It was a large shoot, the Zone 2 at Fairfax Rod and Gun Club in Virginia. I won the shootoff of 100s and a bucket of money. I have also had a good day or two at sporting clays with sidesighting devices. I won the first Southern Side by Side .410 event with a Parker and a homemade side sighting device. I consider that my biggest sporting clays win in decades of competition. My Parker PHE trap was my first crossover gun that I didn't fabricate myself. I decided it would be my dedicated pigeon gun, entered a flyer shoot at our club shortly after I found the gun. I had a good day, won a bunch of money and haven't won a dollar at our flyer club since. That is probably fifteen or twenty years ago. Bill Murphy
