late last fall I purchased a Francotte grade #45 shotgun that needed some TLC.
The gun turned out so nice that I decided to get a letter on it through Griffin & Howe and Bob is the historian for the company.
I received the letter along with a wealth of other information such as the original purchaser, the shipping line that the gun came across the Atlantic on, copies of the inventory books etc. It was the best $60 I've spent in a long time.
Thank you Bob

Thank you Jim! Yes that is a leather pad and I did install it. I still need to have the feathers redone on the eagle. My local engraver pointed out that the shield with the eagle was done in green gold and whoever engraved these guns was really good. I know that the birds are not of the quality of the top engravers now but at least they aren't flying turnips. The scroll and the carved breach balls are really nice.

Sorry Jim, Just the shield is green gold. It is a different color - sort've greenish and certainly a different color than the eagle.

I agree Bob does a wonderful job on his research letters. Doug this in my opinion one of the nicest engraved guns I have seen. Really like the variety of birds.
