I am looking at a Circa 1901 G Grade Parker with Damascus Barrels in good condition. What should I look for regarding the Damascus aspects to make sure it is a good shooter. I own no Damascus guns. Thanks for any Help.

the readers digest version

things to consider

light loads such as RST (as much for the old wood as the barrel)

There was a large study published in Double Gun Journel that indicated they can be safe. If I were you I would have the gun checked by an expert and then become well studied on pressures, reloading, and shooting Damascus.

I think it the old length of a piece of string conundrum. All I can say is I once owned an 1893 Parker GH shotgun with Damascus barrels that had passed British Nitro Proof. But that only applied to that particular gun. Lagopus.....

If this is your first foray into damascus guns I would suggest you get someone knowledgeable to assess the gun before you put out any money, especially for your intended purpose. That someone should have gauges and the know how to measure the bore and barrel wall thickness of each barrel at various intervals the full length.
And you do realize that you can't use the same off the shelf ammo that you might use in your current pump or semi-auto gun.
