RWE = Königliche Gewehrfabrik Erfurt. Seems it has an old and a newer Imperial Eagle. Old Imperial Eagle on frame. Never stylized Eagle over M - Material mark - so a new tube by JGA? Lovely palette of mechanic marks. That cross-hatching on tube looks like a post 1968 München touchmark. Cheers, Raimey rse

In USA one sees post WWII customized Mausers from West Germany quite often. There must have been a kind of cottage industry in 40s, 50s and 60s. Many of those often surface on second-hand market especially if one lives in area with good density of older Military veterans who served in Europe.

I haven't seen any other images, but I'm curious if this was an actual RWE Sporter or RWE receiver that was made between the end of WWI & say 1922? Possibly rebarreled by JGA?

Rw.E. = Reichswerke Erfurt, exists only 1919, 1920, than DWE without manufacturing rifles. It's not an imperial Eagle, it's the eagle in "chicken form", only used by Erfurt, Danzig and Amberg 1919-1920.
JGA in this form was never the logo of JG.Anschütz. M under eagle is the material proof mark since 1952, proof house Munich since 1968 is correct. This is a postwar commercial rifle made up of leftover 98a components, made by the remnants of Erfurt. Curious marks and I think before it's not proofed again, never fire it.
