The title says it all. For those of you who shoot older guns, what do you use to take ducks?

Thanks
Joe

Handloaded ITX 6's in 2 1/2" Rio, Fiocchi or Cheddite hulls. I used to load 4's also but found no advantage in them.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I'll echo the first two gentlemen.

I've got to get some more large shot though.
All i have left is a 6.6 jug of #7.

Kent's TM too stout for my older guns. I handload bismuth for $1.32 a shell from old stock. Hear Kent is coming out with bismuth load later this year.

Mystery to me why Kent gave up 2 1/2-inch TM fibre wad 1 1/16 ounce which all was required for decoying ducks. The big boom-bang is unnecessary.

That's a good one. Reminds me of three fellas I know of who had baited the mallards and woodies in a beaver pond in the river swamp about half hour from here. They had to walk about a half mile from where they left their truck to the scene of the crime. When it was over they claimed to have had three burlap bags heavy with ducks to tote back to the truck. As they neared the truck one wondered aloud, "What we gon' do if the MAN is at the truck when we get there?" Without blinking one of the other two said matter of factly, "Kill him?".

I will admit to having longed to kill a pair of greenheads with my HE Fox and some of my old WW Super X Luballoy loads. The prospect of what might follow tempered my longing.

These decisions are usually based on profit margins, or the absence thereof. No mystery to me. How many do you think they actually sold in a year?

You're absolutely correct, Stan. Customers believe boom-bam produces better results. That's the mystery. Profit margins don't relate to efficacy. The birds are the same. They fall as dead with 30 grams. More is often affectation: Big gun, big bam, big man.
