I looked at, and bid on a similar RwE rifle this past weekend.

The milling on the front ring for the claw mount had me bail out early. The 98a/KAR98 has a small ring diameter and a large shank barrel.

The milling to for the claw mount leaves a paper thin amount of steel under the mount.

I would still shoot the rifle, but makes them difficult for resale which was my intention.

These RwE rifles are an interesting blip in Mauser history. An attempt to keep the factory running after the end of WWI, but production ended when the machinery was removed and sent to Allied nations as part of the reparations.
