Eat your heart out, Stan. But our quail season needs expanding from the current four months......

We're often lucky if we still have many doves around when the season opens, Sept 1st. More often than not, most of the birds have already headed south.
We do have a generous season on the forest grouse, 5 months and about 4.5 months for chukars, huns and quail.
Of course on a normal year, much of the forested areas are inaccessible from mid November on, unless, of course one wants to hunt off a sno go or perhaps a 4 wheeler.

I wish I had lived in Texas all my life but never been there, i saw a dead bobwhite laying in hwy couple days ago and I felt like crying.Georgia does not have hardly any bobwhites left!I thought dove season was set by govt. and only so many days allowed in all states that have a season. Bobby

Only thing about Texas is you need to pick them up quick. I've lost more then a few to fire ants over the years. Mean little buggers.

No fire ants in the Panhandle. Ooooh, You shouldn'ta said that! I remember when they weren't here, either. Along with coyotes, wild hogs and armadillos. All four have moved into this part of the world in my lifetime. Back to the long dove season. I'm MAD!!! (Not really) I AM jealous, tho'. Congratulations, Texas. SRH
