I know many in this group often get guns to "rescue". In light of this fact, what guns do you have the bench now? Whats wrong with it/them? Are you doing the work yourself or sending it out? Include pictures if you are so inclined.

I'll go first. I have an old W. & C. Scott that spent its life in the Florida salt marshes. She has seen a lot of use. There is some pitting in the bore, but the walls are still very thick. A few other repairs are needed, and they will be done as I can afford them. When she is done I hope to use her for Geese and turkey.

She looks better than this, but this is how I got her:

This is my current project. A J.P. sauer 16 gauge hammergun built in 1902. Stock was broken in two at the wrist and repaired by Craig Libhart. He did a fine job. The gun weighs 5lbs 7ounces. I have put a box of RST lites through her while working my 7 month old GSP on chukars. Recoil is actually quite sharp, even with the light loads. I was going to restock, but the wood is quite nice, and the repair seems solid as a new stock. I will have Craig recut the checkering if the stock holds up through a few hundred rounds. I am in the middle of about 35 rubbed in coats of oil now. I was going to recolor the action, but decided against it. She looks good for a 105 year old gun.

I dislike projects, but my olden Daniel Fraser singleshot rifle doesn't want to chamber new cartridges.
...and the ones that came with the rifle have been spent.
I'll need to find someone who will slug the bore and make chamber casts.
Yuck, don't think they were factory ammo that came in the case.

I'm fitting a pad to a Kerner light 16, will also probably use the light 16ga. 2-1/2" shells.

Doing my first checkering project on a Marlin 336 "Hog Gun" in .35 Rem.

Will attempt to build first Mauser sporter

All the while I will start to learn to reload for rifles.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

I just had a restocking project completed by Toby Leeds on my Fratelli Rizzini, and I posted some pics.

My next project will be a Westley Richards that needs to be restocked as well. My bank account, however, needs to recover a bit after making a recent purchase. The gun was made in 1895 and between now and then someone put an ugly wood extension on the butt and did a mediocre job. The stock has more than enough scratches and dings on it too. The gun is mechanically sound, it just needs a new stock. Since I'm left handed and need a long length of pull, I don't mind guns that have had the stock messed up. I would feel guilty restocking a vintage gun that's in original condition and good working order.

Lowell think it might be time to sell that old Fraser before others figure out what you figured out.

All old guns are an ongoing project. Storm seems like I've saw that Scott before...Did a guy in Florida have it forsale ?

That would be cutting my my last tie with owd Scotland j0e!
I have done some fancy reloading stunts in the past, but you could be right. I just need to see how far off this is from factory spec 25-20.

My current project gun is a nice old Remington 1894 with Damascus 12 gauge barrels. It is/was solid mechanically, but a bit off face and needed complete refinishing. Its now at the gunsmith, getting new case colors, a few dents removed, and barrel re-browning. The stock is the next phase.

I hope to use it to hunt preserve birds this fall with low pressure handloads....if everything is completed in time.

Lowell,
Get ahold of RCBS. They used to make dies from a sample of a few cases fired in your chamber. Whether or not you're a reloader is not important. Just get the dies made. You will be able to find someone knowledgeable as a reloader to figure out how to use them, if you don't reload.
