is he using surgical tubing to hold it in place as he stretches it? I think the key to getting them stretched right is a long soak in warm water followed by surgical tubing behind the pad and a nice gentle radius on the toe. I made a jig to hold the pads, a simple piece of wood shaped like the butt only undersized by about .100" all the way around which gives you a place to put the tubing. One other thing is to not stretch the leather so much it compresses the pad. It is a very tricky job and much, much easier on a stock that is not finished or will be refinished. Hope that helps.
