I'll not be able to make it this fall, but very nice of you to offer. I'm try to let the bank account rebound from a Red Stag trip to New Zealand and I was lucky enough to finally draw an Elk tag here in Colorado for this Sept. I need to get back up that way. I spent two summers on Kodiak when I was a pup in my late teens. I have a real desire to pursue moose one day and a stalking rifle would be ideal in the thick stuff. I loved seeing the coastal browns when I was up there. An amazing place.

The moose will cost you more. To get into the really good stuff you have to pay for Super Cub time, that's after you get to the hub area. Best shot is out of Nome area. Red deer, I'm sure I would be broke for life after that hunt. I was quoted at just over thirty grand. But that Red deer I killed in Vietnam way back when sure ate good. My first choice for table fair is elk, next is black bear killed in the fall. If you are going to use your .375 flanged and haven't done so yet, get Woodleigh bullets. Hands down, so far above the rest.

Big Al, 30 K is way, way more than I payed. I payed just a small fraction of that for my stag and a fallow. You usually do have to pay if you want to get to the good stuff. One way or another. I like to put in as much time before the hunt as I can. It payed of in spades with my NZ trip. Lots of reasearch and ended up with a great deal and a wonderful guide. Heres a couple of pics, please forgive the bolt gun...I couldnt get close enough with the Holland falling block. The Stag was taken at 250 yards and the fallow at 180. I just cant swing that with open sights. I was able to get well within range of smaller animals, but the nice trophies required me to use a scope. I did build the mauser. Its not much of a Chamoi, but I got him on public land with no guide, sorta made me proud even if he is a wee little bugger.

You never have to say sorry to me for a Mauser, I'm a fan. Nice looking rifle by the way.
The rest looks good, I'm tickled to hear you got off cheap. Looks like you did vary well for yourself.
I know if I made the trip to NZ, I'd have to bring flyrods along too.

Nice hunt SKB, you did VERY well! We talked before you went over. Did you pick up any guns while you were there? Who did you use for your hunt?

LC Smith Field grade...its stocked...bought to start checkering it.
After that is FW LC for a complete restock.
Then a Lefever DS in 20 gauge. That should keep me out of the bars for a while.

8bore & BIG AL, no it is a 25-20 Win., the 25-20SS is a thinner, but longer cartridge. I'm a thinkin' the neck has been trimmed to shorten the OAL.
