Last time I talked to him he had a set of HE barrels in the white and also dozens of original semi inletted stock blanks. A good wood guy could join a new stock to the old one at a reasonable price without all the expense of all the inletting.

I bought a 16 gauge barrel as well as all the forend iron to make a custom two barrel set from Jason. He is a super nice guy.

I've been in his shop. If you like Foxes, it's a wonderland and Jason could not be a nicer guy.

I would think that if holes were drilled into the chambers, it would qualify as "Deactivated" I always do that on sets I have cut down for segments.

I heard tell the first Beesley patent Purdey suffered a similar fate - bequeathed to a ne'er-do-well who wanted quick cash...

The thing to do is send it to Kirk Merrington or someone who can make a new set of barrels and then have it restocked. Sad story, though

My idea on both guns under consideration is, they should have been offered back to the owners, they had obviously been stolen. If it was Great-Granddads gun, it should be the owners choice to have it repaired or abandoned to law enforcement. Anyone that thinks a great effort is made to return stolen guns back to the owner has not talked to many people that have lost them, or to policemen. If you are robbed, The first question you will be asked is, was everything locked up? The second is, do you have insurance? If you have insurance , many police agencies won't make a concerted effort to return any guns to the owners( with no regard for heirlooms or limits on recovery amounts). A friend of mine bought a pile of confiscated guns from a sheriff's auction, they were holding for the local police department( police couldn't auction them, sheriff could). After spending a lot of time effort and money, putting them in good enough shape to sell, ATF came and confiscated most of the ones that had any value. They were sold to him by "serial number" and promptly logged into his "bound book". The one they took had been listed with them as "stolen" and the police had not even checked the list. My friend still doesn't have all the money he paid and lost, back from the Sheriff/police. He will never get the money he lost working on the guns back.

Many years ago there was a moron who cut a set of double barrels down to the end of the fore end. He must have extended his left hand too far because he shot the ends of two fingers off to the first knuckle when he fired it into the ceiling. So after firing his gun he dropped it and clutched his wounded hand, the liquor store owner produced his own gun and held him until the police came to arrest him. They did make a detour to the emergency room. That was back in the early 60's when shot guns were more common in robberies than today's 9mm semi automatics favored by gang bangers everywhere.

James-1, I also have a B Grade Parker ten cut to 18". I don't know if my gun came from California, but yours and mine would make a nice pair. I was ready to meet John Foster at the Southern and ended up house bound after surgery and couldn't make it. Bill Murphy

Sorry to hear that, Bill. I also had to skip the Southern- travel plans and shared expenses with two pals fell through- I was really looking forward to the pump shotgun events. I have never owned a high or even medium graded double with cut barrels- enough to make you sick to think of a B grade turned into a stage-coach shotgun- But about 25 years ago, I bought a HE 12 Fox with an obliterated serial number, and a "modified" buttstock grip, and a beavertailed forearm that would make Beaver Cleaver gag and puke at his "name-sake" Today, I would not touch such a shotgun with a 100 yard pole. I am sure the Lovely Linda is taking good care of you- maybe we'll meet at the Fall Southern shoot in Oct- and then again, maybe not.

I wonder if your friend who got royally screwed by a crooked Sheriff knows the wisdom of the line in a great song written years ago by Mick Jagger-- the song's title is Sympathy For The Devil and the line that rings true is: "Just as every cop is a criminal, and all the sinners are saints". RWTF
