I've shot RST 12 bore shells as follows:
Maxi Lite: 5700 PSI, 1 oz. of shot
Falcon Lite: 5400 PSI, 7/8 oz. of shot
and my favorite in my 6 1/2 lb. gun, the
Ultra Lite: 4400 PSI 3/4 oz. of shot
The pressure information was supplied to me by RST. Hope this information is helpful.

If you like 2-3/4" and #8 shot, Fiocchi makes a 12 ga training load at 7/8oz and about 6600psi.

bonny, only Gamebore making black powder loads commercially as far as I know. Mainly 12's in paper roll crimp cases but they did make a few 20's and 16's in plastic cases. Very expensive!
As for light 7/8th. ounce loads look for Eley and Hull Cartridge Co. stuff marked 'Trainer'; nice light loads. Eley also make a sub-sonic load that is low pressure which they make for use in shotguns with sound moderators. Some other companies also market a similar type which are light on the shoulder. Lagopus.....

Lagopus, strange you should mention Gamebore. I have just this minute received an email from Gamebore, in answer to a query about their BP cartridges.
They inform me that they have not loaded BP shells for sometime and will not be doing so again in the future due to changes in health and safety laws. Looks like the meddling EU strikes again.

Would any of you like to get together for some walked up or driven snipe shooting this season? As lovers of vintage firearms, separated only by an ocean and a common language, I think it would be a very enjoyable get together.
Does Ryan air check firearms?
Out there doing it best I can.

RST's 3/4 oz. Falcon Ultra Lite mentioned above is a beautiful, soft, but effective load. 1125 FPS. RIO also makes a very nice 7/8 oz. 2 1/2 dram load. 1200 PFS. For me anyway, at the distance that I shoot at clay birds or real birds, I don't think extra FPS make any difference.
