Its not a doublegun it's a Rem pump 22 but This is my go to site.
The gun smells like it was in a fire. There is no visible heat damage. The stock finish is not charred the bluing is fine it just smells like smoke. Wood and metal both.
Will stripping and resealing and refinishing take the smell out of the wood?
Will a solvent bath take the smell out of the metal?

An odd problem I have never encountered save with camping gear and wood smoke.

If it has taken on a wood smoke smell then it will go away in time.

If you want to speed it up wipe down the metal with a good lubricant and wipe down the stock with lemon oil furniture finish.

The smell will go away

I bought a Marlin 39A from a heavy smoker. The smell has faded considerably after a year or so but I still catch a whiff now and then. I did nothing other than discard the cloth case (which was far worse). In my instance, I believe it will go away with time.

Well it is definitely stronger than just cigarette smoke. Like it was in a fire just did not get burned.

The metal won't hold scent. Pull it from the stock and clean it thoroughly, especially the area covered by the stock.

If sealed with finish, cleaning should get rid of most of it. The area covered by the metal may hold a lot of the smoke residue. If it isn't sealed, you might have to seal it with stock finish.

Choice A
Pack it in a box of newspaper, and set in the sun for the afternoon. Heat volatilizes smoke particles, and the carbon in the printers ink adsorbs the smoke particles.

Pack it in a box of charcoal briquettes (fresh bag) and set it in the sun for the afternoon. Same deal.
Choice C
take it to an auto interior place, or fire restoration place, and have it placed in their smoke eater machine for a while. Which is an ozone generator (O3)

Usually, a little heat, and some nice dry carbon will suck most off odors out nicely.

I once bought a gun that was buried with the owners body. Some time later the son dug up the body and removed the rifle. I bought it but it smelled so bad I had to leave out on the porch. I tried every thing to remove the dead body smell, moth balls, lemon oil everthing. A year later it was still there and I was just about ready to burn the stock. I put it in a box with rags soked with Hoppe's Number 9. In one month the smell was gone.

Just when you think you've heard it all - that's a new one.
