Re: Commonwealth Arsenal, Fairfax, Virginia
I am posting this to make any potential customers of Commonwealth Arsenal out of Fairfax, Virginia, aware of their return policy. On Gunbroker they state a "three day inspection". I assumed that meant if the gun was returned a full refund, less shipping would be given. Wrong! The very convoluted fine print translates this way: the buyer may return the gun in the inspection period. They will not refund the purchase amount but will attempt to resell it and whatever selling price is realized will constitute the refund. Oh, they also will charge a 10% "restocking fee" (commission) to be deducted from the "refund". Over many years I have bought a quite a few guns on Gunbroker and returned a number of them and up to this point have always been pleased. I knew sooner or later I would get stuck and it finally happened. Yes, I was partially at fault not adequatey parsing the fine print. Main reason for posting this is to encourage everyone to be absolutely clear on all of the terms of a transaction, especially internet activity when you're unable to meet the other party face to face. Lesson relearned.....
Oh, forgot to mention--the seller stated in the listing the gun had no sign of "refinish or restoration". Well, the barrels have been heavily refinished inside and out and the brown finish on the Parker completely hides the damascus pattern. I asked two questions, (1) stock dimensions and (2) weight. Both were answered with totally incorrect information.

Can you post a link to one of their GB auctions? I couldn't find one using the search function. Thanks and sorry you suffered this deplorable business practice. -jmc

Just went and looked at a couple of their auctions on GB. I would have missed it as well! Definitely trash.
Sure sorry you were stung. Thanks for the heads up.

I had a recent bad experience on GB which ended up being a good one, no thanks to the seller. The seller had a no return policy. The gun had a gunsmith fabricated replacement part that interfered with the proper functioning which in my opinion was an undisclosed defect. When confronted the seller replied: "You wanted to buy a Cadillac at Pinto prices" and refused to take the gun back. Our own Ted rescued me by locating the unobtanium factory part and a qualified gunsmith to fit it at a reasonable cost. The gun now functions as intended and despite the additional cost, the total expenditure was well worth it. Thanks again, Ted. Gil

Here's a current listing of Commonwealth Arsenal I just randomly picked. Be sure to carefully read and understand "Additional Terms of Sale", second paragraph. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/560209331

gunbroken.com............
its why i refused to deal with them any longer in 2011. they protect the sellers and shaft the buyer.
when gb went from little guy support to dealer/big guys support, they got the scent of money and never looked back.
sad to hear of your dealings.

Joe, sorry to hear about your issue. It appears that not all sellers have the integrity of a Kirby Hoyt for one. Gil

Joe, thanks very much for the Head's-Up! Our own Ted rescued me by locating the unobtanium factory part and a qualified gunsmith to fit it at a reasonable cost. The gun now functions as intended and despite the additional cost, the total expenditure was well worth it. Thanks again, Ted. Gil Ted has been AWOL for over a month. I hope all is well with him.
