Remember Reagan telling the Japanese to self-impose a limit on car exports to the USA or he and the congress would do it for them?

Glad to see you started including the Democrats in with the guilty. Didn't see much mention of them in your first post on the subject.

I said every POUS since Bush 41 in my first post, I had thought that would be very clear to anyone who can remember back to the early 90's. Bush 41, Clinton, Bush 43, Obama.....the way I see BOTH parties own this mess. Plenty of blame to round no matter the motivation.

Reagan is pretty much the polar opposite of Trump. He was unfailingly polite, even to his political enemies. Was it Mondale who made the remark about Reagan's age, to which Reagan replied that he'd promise not to mention Mondale's youth and inexperience if Mondale would refrain from mentioning his age? He was polite even in the debates.

Getting Mexico to pay for a wall may sound good, but I can't imagine it will ever happen. Deporting 11 million illegals also sounds good to some people, but simply isn't practical. It'd be like turning the country into a police state.

Re Muslim immigration . . . "zero tolerance" policies make little sense to me, whether it's suspending little Mary from school because she took a plastic knife to spread her Peanut Butter or whether it's keeping ALL Muslims out because a few of them might be terrorists. How about the ones who've served with our military or intelligence organizations in Iraq and Afghanistan and have saved American lives?

There are good reasons for the middle class to dislike free trade, no question. More jobs for the Chinese, fewer for the Americans. On the other hand . . . where does Trump have his line of clothing made??

We might not get every last one of the 11 million illegal aliens but if we got half it would be a great improvement. Those aliens take jobs from non-college-educated citizens in entry level jobs and in construction and meat packing. And it can be done without a police state. Right now Democrats, including their leader Mr. Obama, are sheltering illegal aliens. I would consider it an improvement to go back to the days when we deported them when it was convenient. Like when an Arizona Sheriff surrenders an illegal alien caught driving without insurance or driver's license to the Border Patrol.

I would expect Trump to lower the illegal immigration rate. I am sure it would be a combination of walls, surveillance, and border patrol agents. I doubt Mexico will pay for it too but I don't mind.

I get tickled when Trump's foes attack his business practices.

Trump, just like any other capitalist, competed within the rules that the USA had in force. If capitalists don't do that they go broke, so they would then be capitalists without capital, which is very inconvenient for them. If you don't like it that your shirts are made in Bangladesh blame us, don't blame the long gone US shirtmakers or the extinct US shirt maker unions.

Free trade is the reason we have cheap clothes, tools, and automobiles. I would give those benefits up for the benefits of tariffs. Tariffs would give our blue collar workers a better shot at a middle class lifestyle.

The press wants Trump to tell everyone his compromised position or where is he willing to negotiate down to. Trump refuses to give up that information and keeps telling the media that this is a negotiation or, in other words, I start here, you start there, and we'll work towards the middle. The media doesn't understand that concept.

Trump is also a general contractor and I've never met a general contractor that has any patience for the stupid or the incompetent.

Whatever his business practises are, Mike, the owner of the 65-storey Trump Tower is trying to sell the troubled property, and "shed the brand," according to the Globe and Mail's front page today. The hotel has poor reviews and "There are too many negatives associated with Trump's management" and "none of the bidders are expected to keep the Trump name on the Toronto skyline." The Trump name appears to be an embarrassment in the financial centre of Canada. But that's just business, eh?

king, you are correct. it is just business...and not all entrepreneurial ventures are successful in the long run...if they were, everybody would be doing it... and those who do would not be held in such high regard, as is trump, for his success over the years.
