i'm looking at an early (I believe) Sauer 16 ga. double serial # 614xx.; Selbstspanner system;
One large crown, one smaller; two 16's in circles; Black and smokeless proofs;
28.75" bbls; Also stamped 16/1 twice (?); Nicht fur Kugel.

So - when was this gun made, please? I was told that early Sauer production
records are "missing-in-action".
Any help would be much appreciated. Even tho' the gun shows wear, it is
handsomely engraved and definitely worth conserving and identifying.
Thanks for whatever help you can be!

You can interpolate yourself.

I believe 16/1 marks would indicate the barrels were slightly overbored at time of proof, around .669" or possibly a few thousandths more.

16/1 = .669" with 15/1 = .677". A barrel marked 16/1 would thus accept a plug gage of .669" to the required depth but would not accept the .677" plug. Could be anywhere in between those two limits.
