I agree with the old colonel that the modern liberal does not care about people nearly as much as getting re-elected and I also agree with both he and King that liberalism is in the ascendancy. Those two things go hand in hand. Liberals have figured out that they will keep getting re-elected if they keep giving away more and more money. Their constituents have figured out that they will keep getting more and more money if they keep voting in the liberals. That, in my opinion, is the reason for the current ascendancy of liberalism. But it's a vicious circle for the rest of us and for the country.

The fundemental problem with Liberalism and it's true movement source of Socialism is that no matter what you do, no matter what you say about yourself or others one unadvoiable certainty is that eventually you run out of other people's money to give away. When they have been drained of money you can only borrow until those coffers run out as well then you can't go on.

Our government has decided to take from one group and give to another. Ok now it's the baby boomers who are footing the bills and having their money used by he government to prop up one program after another, one group after another. Now we are retiring and the cash flow from us is going down quickly every year. In 15 years it may be half of its current levels. Who is going to pay the extra taxes? Kids born after 1980-1990-2000-2010? Heck most of them are living with their parents. They've got no money to take. No savings to rob and social security has been tapped out. Perhaps you can sell everything to foreign investors until they decide there is no money to make here.

By 2030-2040 we will be broke with 50 plus years of people only taking from the government and not working for their keep. Fun times ahead.

"The fact that you can't suppress doesn't contradict the fact that you are for suppression."

Okay, Mike, one fact but the other? I worked directly with our MP and federal justice minister as a two-county spokesman to remove the federal gun registry, attended pro-gun demonstrations before the legislature, am currently a member of one gun club and often two (the other in another county), shot competitively in provincial and national skeet and rifle competitions, and actively pursue upland and ducks and geese from a well-stocked gun room---and you say I'm for suppression of gun rights from thousands of miles away. What you think is your business and fine with me with me but your opinion is not a fact. A fact is something "certainly known to have occurred or be true"---OED

I woke up in a good mood and then started reading all this stuff about the end of Western Civ as we know it. Ya'll have me reaching for the potato "vodka" a little early. Look on the bright side. There's a shoot in Missoura in a few months. I just hope a dirty, hungry foul mouthed bum doesn't walk off with one of your Purdeys.

Keep going, fellas. I almost won my bet.

Faster than that, according to Mitt Romney. He said it's 47 per cent now. I don't think it's all that much different from Canada where all enterprise is public enterprise, whether managed by Ottawa bureaucrats or boards of directors elected by shareholders. All feed from, one way or another, the public purse. "Entitlements" are distributed widely.

Old colonel- Well said in all your above posts.

King- I was raised in the Jim Crow south, and I know that all the Jim Crow laws from "separate but equal" to Poll Taxes were entirely from the Democrat Party. In those days the Democrat Primary was virtually the same as the General Election. People not US citizens and not on US soil do not have Constitutional rights under our Constitution. Poll taxes were outlawed because you should not have to pay to exercise a civil right, the 2nd Amendment is a civil right.

Please google "US constitutional protection for non-US citizens" for several authoritative sources which say you're wrong about rights, constitutional or otherwise, of foreigners in your great country.

King I didn't say foreigners in the US didn't have any civil rights. I said that illegal aliens don't have the civil rights of citizens. For instance, if an illegal alien gets convicted of a felony and imprisoned then upon his release from prison Mr. Obama's ICE will deport him. A citizen can't be deported upon release from prison.

Before Mr. Obama we deported illegal aliens when convenient. I remember one time we were doing the HVAC and plumbing on a strip shopping center in Borger, Texas. The Border Patrol showed up and rounded up twenty or so illegal alien roofers. Had those aliens been citizens the Border Patrol could not have detained them. That was about 1983. With a different President we might return to that policy.
