Hi all, I have a couple of 20ga guns and a 28ga. I don't have a bore gauge to measure them. I don't really want to spend an arm and a leg for a gauge, so.......anyone have a cheap way to measure?

If you want cheap but good, a manson gauge from brownells is your way to go.

He is really not getting bore size just wall thickness with a Manson style gage.
Even with the Manson style it would have to have a support rod about .500 for the 28 ga.
This type of gage has been discussed on here in length a few years ago.
He needs a Skeet's type gage. A shame they are no longer made. Maybe if you post on here someone might sell theirs.

Thanks guys, I have a Skeets Gauge for my 12 and 16 gauge guns, but as I have so few 20's and only 1 28, I really can't see shelling out any big $$ for a gauge. Guess I'm cheap. Too bad about Skeets, darn good gauge.

Yes, it is the skeets gauge i was thinking of. I used to have one but upgraded to a hosford gauge. I had thought it was made by manson.
I see it looks like brownells doesnt even sell the skeets gauge anymore.
I think i only paid $100 or a little more from brownells for mine when i bought it. And insold it for $75 to a friend just this past hear when i upgraded.
The only limitation i ever had with it was not being able to do 10g. And, if measuring 16g, i could not not get it into the muzzle of a full choked gun.

The gentleman that ran Skeets passed away, so you will have to find a different option. Greg there are machinist calipers to measure hole ID. They are made with two arms that scissor around a central pivot point. the ends touching the wall internal surfaces are mirrored on the other end, like a very shallow X then you measure the outer end of the X. As with all measuring devices, using the tool and being able to use it well takes practice. Try to find a Skeets before they dry up, or invite the Col. up and have him bring all his stuff. Greg,
I have a CSP bore gauge in 12, 16, 20, 28 and .410. If you're ever down in the Cities bring your guns and I'll measure them. I really like this set, but I'm a shotgun geek and like knowing the bores and chokes in my guns.
