I have seen two Blue Quail / Bobwhite hybrids or crossbreeds.

Locally they are referred to as "Blobs".

Mike:

That Bob /Blue hybrid has caught the moniker of "Blob" applied to it by Quail researcher/ bird hunting pal ,Dr. Dale Rollins.....

Several years ago (90's) if I recall, he was really into a study of them and asked me, if in my experience I had a any photos or records of them.
I told him I did and supplied him with them. My photography skills take a very big secondary role in my bird hunting outings , so I guess it left him wanting more .

Dale came by and asked me to check my old logs ( calendars that I record my quail outings for many years now) and we came up with 13 notes where I had taken "Blobs" over many years. The info in the sparse notes showed they came from several local counties where the species overlap.

So now we know the origin of the Flying Turnips depicted by many engravers of vintage guns.

Hey Mel! Both Blobs I have seen were taken south of Clarendon. Mostly bobwhites in the area we hunt there.

I think you are wrong keith. Those birds were made to look that way so they didn't make the cartoon-like Setters and Pointers look odd.
