I wish to goodness I could post the pics of my two grandsons with their dove limits this afternoon. Maybe eventually. Oldest, Jackson (14), limited out first with his 20 ga., I got my 15 next, with my Dickinson .410. Lane (11), the younger brother to Jackson, was shooting his 20 and this was his absolute first dove shoot, to be shooting. He has gone with us for years and shagged birds, but never wanted to shoot.

We called it at 5:00 so the birds could come on in and feed unmolested and I rode out to get Lane. I asked how many he had (I knew he was close to the limit just by seeing so many he had shot down). He replied "Fourteen ..... I didn't get the limit". He was a bit put off. I was ecstatic that he had bagged that many on his first time shooting, and made a big deal of it. Later, when we were laying the birds out and taking pics of him and his brother we learned that he had really taken the limit, but had miscounted!! I, tongue in cheek, scolded him for not counting properly.

We had a wonderful day, better than I could have ever hoped for. Lots of birds. The field of gunners probably took between two and three hundred, total. I'm thinking there is going to be some serious competition between Lane and his older brother Jackson, in days to come!!

Oh yeah, the lunch. Grilled chicken quarters, ribs, lobster/macaroni and cheese, marinated slaw, real key lime pie, and fresh cooked peach cobbler. All the fresh picked scuppernongs and muscadines so you could ask for, too.

May God bless America and those who defend her.
