I wanna show you my dog works on wild birds near my dacha. Corncrake and Europian quail are the only birds available at the moment at my place. Snipes, woodcocks, black grouses... will be very soon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWcRlqoelLA

That's a nice video Geno. Is your dogs name IRS ?
"IRS points Corncrake" I first thought we were going to see the US Internal Revenue Service confiscate a cornfield.

Geno, nice to see a hunting Irish Setter. The bird you are calling a Corncrake has the shape and size of a pheasant. Also what is the temperture like at your home now.

Very nice Geno. When you whistled on the video, my Golden Retriever got up and came over to watch too.

David, your dog is VERY hunting dog allready, 'cause my whistle is very hunting whistle! ![](/forums/images/graemlins/default/laugh.gif) JDW, according to my Russian-English voc. it was Corncrake (Crex Crex, Latin) and size of 1/2 Europian woodcock. This bird likes to run. than to fly and very hard hunting object for young dogs. It's about 20C over here at noon. ![](http://www.floranimal.ru/gallery/big/1706.jpg)

Am I mistaken in thinking that a corncrake is a kind of rail? I remember seeing them in the national park in Spain where the Guadalquivir River runs into the Med and in the Marais in France. Not strong fliers when they do fly, as I recall.

Mike, rail is very much alike corncrane, both are from Gruiformes (Crane) family, but rail' habitation is very wet places, prefers to be near water, not very tasty, when corncrane is in dry fields. In fall it's gonna be very fat and desired bag ![](/forums/images/graemlins/default/wink.gif)
