Well, that's a pretty high level seminar on shotgun construction for sure.

Thanks for the valuation Rocketman. Have your spreadsheets but didn't think about using them yet. Only modification to the info I've provided is that the triggers seems to have original case hardening clearly visible on them which makes this more of a safe queen than I thought, perhaps.

And definitely two screws on the bottom of the action as this quick photo shows.

Certainly learned more about this gun and boxlocks than expected! Thanks to all for the contributions. Now, if it shoots well with my 2 1/2 inch loads and I get that sling swivel fixed, it will be lots of fun.

This gun is a great buy anyways, and I'm sure it will shoot fine.
Good luck with it.
I also appreciate swivels as I hunt natural game on large areas too.

Re: the 2 screws on the belly: It's an easy way to do a quick sort when checking a large gun rack of SXS such as at auctions etc.
No screw is WR droplock, 1 screw is sidelock, 2 screws is the remainder.

Best regards,

Stumbled on this thread on false French sidelocks:

No screw is WR droplock, 1 screw is sidelock, 2 screws is the remainder.

This will not work for American guns. My Baker sidelock has no visible screws, My Lefever boxlocks have 1 screw, My Ithaca Flues boxlock has 1 screw, almost hidden by the trigger guard. An 1860's W& C Scott bar-in-wood pinfire sidelock has 2 screws. Even realizing this bar-in-wood might be considered an exception not positive it's 100% on any guns, though perhaps generally true.
As they taught us back in English Grammar, there are exceptions to all rules.
