From a policing perspective, your and our guys are always telling us to leave policing to them, not vigilantism. A successful cc application in Canada is very rare; I know none with one.

A Mountie friend told me a person needs a good lawyer if they use violence with a firearm or 2 X 4 on apprehension of a person with lighted match in a hayloft, climbing in a window, leaving with private property.

A case dragged through the courts for years of a Chinese shopkeeper in Toronto looking at a prison term for shooting at thieves leaving his store. He had been burglarized and robbed half-a-dozen times.

I believe Canadian shooters have ideas or plans if they felt lives were in danger. Legality would be problematic, likely not. My firearms are unloaded and locked in a gunroom. I have no need for them for personal safety.
