Gents; I have a 30" Purdey, mfg in 1900, which was a "Duck," according to an expert. Recently, while I was transporting it, the right ejector "fires" when I open the gun. Plus, I had a person put a front sight on it, and it is so big, it reminds me of a ping-pong ball when I look down the barrels. My question is: Who would you guys trust to work on it? There is nobody in that area that I could or would recommend for work on a Purdey, especially when it's an issue with WEM ejectors. You are going to have to send it out for repair. You have really good options in Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and a few on the east coast. And what's up with the barrel bead? You didn't pick the size you wanted before you had it installed? Easy enough fix I suppose...unless the recent install involved over sized hole and a re-tap. If so, price goes up.

Dear LeFusil: The last repair person was Dale Tate in California: I asked him to put on a Ivory bead, which he did, but for me, and also for Mr. Ken Duglan, who went "tut-tut and "My-my;" it is too big. No, I didn't pick a size; relying on Mr. Tate to be a good judge. Through this site, I have found an excellent gunsmith here in the USA to whom I will ship the gun. Thank You Sir; Sam Ogle, Lincoln, NE

Sam, I have had Del Whitman in Lake Ann, Michigan work on a few of my Holland and Hollands. Excellent work and he mainly works on English and fine Italian doubles.Number is 231-275-0140

Thanks to all of you for the excellent suggestions: I have contacted a gunsmith, and will send the gun to him. Sam Ogle

By "ink and varnish" does him mean inking the engraving and varnishing over that?
