So the front sight on the right is what I consider the normal 3 barrel sight. The one on the left is the gun in question.

That is odd indeed. And the rear sight is original? There is something going on there.
The fromt sight on these guns is supposed to double as a sight and a bead.

I just checked a couple of these drillings and note the very nicely made rear sights are adjustable in three positions.

Oddly, the front sight of one is like your sight on the right and appears original. The other gun appears to have an altered front sight, making it quite a bit higher, more like your sight on the left.

If it is 18" high at 25 what is it at 50&75 yards? It sounds more like a regulation issue than a sight issue. I know the bullet trajectory is a issue with a big drop at a hundred yards but I can't see the need to be 18" high at 25 to be spot on at anything like a reasonable range for this round.

The front sight on my 12 x 12 x .32-40, 1746, is just like the tall sight on the left, except mine has a red insert.

In the original post, Marks says "I can't get my head fully down...".

I don't really follow the discussion about POI from there. The gun is certainly nice, but...

We don't know where the rifle shoots until someone lines the friggin' sights up.

Slide your head back so the stock drop allows the sights to function?

Certainly in the 86 part DGJ series on Hollenbeck, guns that shoot 18" high were not mentioned.

So, for those curious, or those who remember I finally made some ground here. I am shooting a moderate amount high 2in @ 40 yards which I can live with.
With only 1 week of late season left to try it out and 2 deer in the freezer I am not super motivated but may take it on a walk or two.
I had about a half a dozen issues to sort in the process.
The chamber or throat is very short and bullets had to be seated super deep
I reduced my loads dramatically and dropped to a 100 gr Bullet with a contour that allowed bullets to not be as deep.
I am sure I can get it going better but sold off most of my
Brass and ammo. ( factory loads didn't fit the short chamber throat. )

I have a handful loaded for a late season still hunt and will
Keep looking for cheap misc brass.

Great report, thanks
Are you trying to form 25-35 from 30-30 brass?
