I'd still take my '67 Canaro RS/SS 350 convertible over any of the others mentioned so far. Definitely not the fastest but damn good looking and fast enough.

Ok, Ted. Crooked tests. It was all rigged to put the W31 so far down the list, eh?
Sure sounds like the Dems strategy in political debates. When faced with damning data, attack the source. Seems to work for them, so, good luck.

Stan,
How many LS5s have you seen? How many LS6s? How many Hemis?
How many have you owned? Raced? Raced against?
Most of the cars, on any given day, at the strip, were, none of the above.

You had to be there. The results were, often, much different than what you read in the magazines.

Best,
Ted

My roommate had a LS6, we raced it weekly. There were several 426 hemis in my area, not to mention several 428s and 429s. One of my buds had a 427 Camaro. We street raced a lot. I lived the scene for several years from 67 until I married my one and only in 71. They lowered the compression and ruined it about 72. I live right across the river from Jackson Drag Strip, and spent every Sunday afternoon I could there. Just as I do with double guns I don't offer opinions based only on what others have written, but also on what I have lived.

Second strategy of the Dems ..... discount the experience or the veracity of the "opponent".

I had a 75 Trans Am and then a 79 Trans Am after I wrecked the 75. 79 was silver with smoked glass T-tops. Not particularly fast but I sure thought it was hot stuff.

My dad was an auto dealer in the 60s & 70s. Always had lots of used muscle cars.....396s, 440 Mopars, GTOs, Vettes, etc. In high school I had a 64, 67 and 69 GTOs. Thought I was hot stuff but those cars were not really that fast. Fast forward many years & I got into Mustangs. Had 69 & 70 Boss 302s, 351W Mach Is,70 Shelby GT500, but the two fastest were a 70 Mach 1 w/428 super cobra jet (different motor than a 428 cobra jet), grabber orange with the shaker hood scoop. Tons of low end torque. Baddest of all mine was a 66 Shelby GT350 (candy apple red w/white stripes), really hopped-up 289, lots of R model options, 5 speed from a late model mustang, and four 48 IDA Weber carbs. The carbs really made that 289 sing but were a bear to keep tuned.

If you think doubles can be expensive.....muscle cars are in another universe cost wise. Been there and done that.

Great post, Mike. I had a friend who had a Mach 1 428. He got embarrassed one night by a '67 Chevelle 396 that, according to my research on his serial no., was a 325 hp engine. He could jump a drink can with the front tires when he dumped the clutch, with street tires!! I always suspected 4.56s in that rear.
