The pre-64 guns do bring more, but it's the small production of the two rarer calibers, .284 and .358, that drives the asking prices. They are passed around from one dealer to another with each one working on the "greater fool" theory, hoping a Winchester collector will pay the ridiculously exorbitant prices. There is actually one on GI now for $4750! Someone wanting one to shoot is generally SOL.
