I have a M71, some factory ammo, cases, bullets, that all need a new home. Most definitely a shooter - reblue and refin a loooong time ago it looks.

I've only kept it since it came from a dragon ship pilot buddy that didn't make it back. But I've never even pulled the trigger on it. Well, WTF? Know what I mean?

I recently picked up the Holy Grail of Model 70's, a 300 Savage. They only made 362 of them. Just sold/traded it for $12,000.

Holy Grail indeed. I had a 35 Remington Midel 70 in near mint condition which a fellow collector just about died when I handed it to him. Well I did tell him "it was a almost a shame to have to use such a nice gun for a custom rifle upgrade". I think I told him I was going to restock it in screwbean Mesquite with a 35 Whelen barrel and a fancy Scope. Just trying to get a rise out of him. It did. He'd been looking for that exact rifle for almost 20 years. Told him truth was that it was not for sale but he'd get first refusal. He was a great friend. He did end up buying it shortly after that but did not get to enjoy it too long. Cancer took him less than two years later. I wonder who ended up with that .35?

I still have an '86 TD in .33 WCF and am not worried about loading for it should I decide to use it. Sold my M-71. But if you can load your own you can keep a 71 running just fine. Midway has .348 brass and heads available.

Provided one has plenty of brass and appropriate bullets the only M71 I would take is .50 conversion that some Alaska "Sourdough" used to do many years ago. The M71 is basically nicely finished crowbar. If one wants lever action .358 Win the best option is the modern BLR.

You're on your own with that opinion. My three BLR's (one a .358) never impressed me much. The clips are junk, but if Jap levers are your thing have at it. Mine all slunk away.

Over time, you'll learn that Jagermeister mostly just regurgitates information that he read or heard elsewhere. He probably never even touched a model 71 Winchester. He can however give you an accurate review on a Chinese .22 LR rifle that he rents. I didn't even know you could rent guns until he admitted doing so. Strangely, he spends a lot of time here posting comments even though his only shotgun is a short barreled 12 ga. 3" Ithaca model 37 pump. If I didn't own even one double shotgun, I probably wouldn't ever so much as visit this site. But then again, I'm not a shill for Liberal Left anti-gun politicians either. Jag does however have an impressive collection of toy stuffed animals, if that counts for anything. I wish he hadn't gotten embarrassed and deleted the picture of them that he once briefly posted here. Simply precious. And weird.

Voting for anti-gun Democrats is dumber than giving treats to a dog that shits on a Persian Rug

My buddy has a .358 model 88 and it is unpleasant to shoot but he has owned it since 1967 and has taken a few deer with it.He paid $125 for it and a Weaver K4 scope way back when.I have a .300 Savage model 70 barrel somewhere in the clutter but I think someone may have run a different reamer in it.

Japanese levers are not really my thing, but they made real nice lever-actioned .22s for Browning and repros of Winchesters 1895 and 71s. I tell you what I would really like is a nice USRAC 1894 XTR in .356 Winchester. Dang it, I never seem to find one locally. cry
