Marc,
Many thanks for the heads-up. I spent so many years flying with the ammo in a separate case (I even have a dedicated ammo case!) that I never realized the rule had changed. Talk about being unaware of your environment!

As for locks, my trouble is that I live in Fort Worth these days and it's a couple of legs to a lot of shooting destinations, like Africa, BA or much of continental Europe. (Still one leg to London.) This gives our friends yet another shot at examining my cases and they sometimes take it. I wish someone would make a TSA lock in a decent grade, but the bad guys probably knew the codes the day they were set, so there may not be a lot in it.

I wouldnt say everywhere just tells you to throw it in the same case. I just returned from New Zealand. Traveling from the US, in the gun case was required, but on domestic NZ flights ammo must be in a different bag and the bolt must be removed from the gun. It pays to do your homework as to the regs where you will be traveling.

The rules say TSA required, but I see all kinds used with no problem, even the cheap kind that come on the case.

I remember the NEWS had something to say about TSA employees being made up, of mostly convicted felons. Maybe that's why TSA wants the ammo with the rifle now. So there employees have a fighting chance, if caught.
