The listed provenance on a handful of the guns is Vintage Doubles, Kirby Hoyt's shop. Can't help but wonder what the hammer prices would have been had Julia's been involved. Gil

It looked like an estate being auctioned off to me.
I could be wrong.

But if so,

In my view, the family peddling off that lot got screwed.
Many of those prices are a fraction of the actual current market worth of those firearms.

I mean, how bad must the barrels be for a Purdey sidelock to go for 6K? With case and accessories. frown

I'm glad my estates affairs for this eventuality are in decent order.

And if I had ever even heard of that auction, I'd have added a good number more items to my current hoard.

That auction company failed (in my view) to act responsibly.

I'm signed up with a bunch of auction notification companies, and I saw zip about it.

Out there doing it best I can.

I would like to own three David McKay Brown guns for fifty grand, way less than one should sell for. Oh well.

Like others, I missed this auction. Any one know who bout the Kirkwood Brothers (likely a Cashmore) 10 ga.-- (https://www.skinnerinc.com/auctions/2946M/lots/89) ??

Thanks

Unbelievable auction.Would have bid had I known, too. Why didn't he leave instructions for his family to contact Kirby where many guns originated? I am going to sit down and update my instructions to my wife.

Oh dear.
My dream gun was just sold there for about half market value, and I had no idea...
If I was the vendor I'd be very, very upset... Someone failed utterly to get even close to fair market value for most of those, costing them a huge amount of commission... but the buyers picked up some bargains.

If any of them were bought by dealers, they'll be back, with reserves. This happens regularly when dealers are offered the opportunity to bid on an entire collection, in an estate. They're bought for a song, then the dealer puts a high price on them and just sits and waits. They are the guns so many show on here, in a dealer's inventory, that are complained about being way too high. Dealer doesn't care, because he can afford to sit on them. When one sells, he gets back all the carrying costs, plus a lot more.

The Dickson is escribed as a "boxlock", classic mistake, surprise that it was made in an auction of vintage guns by an auction company.

I just looked back over the 4 McKay Browns auctioned. Three 12s and a 16. One of the 12s had sleeved barrels and was the low one of the 4 at 14k. Another 12 had a new forend not by maker, but that didn't hurt the hammer price, it achieved 17k along with the 16 and the other 12. The 16 and 2 of the 12s achieved exactly the same amount of 17,220.

Questions: Does that price include the 23% premium? I wonder why 3 sold for the same price to the penny.
