I'd look long and hard for an example of the Galeif Companion guns, imported from Italy in the 1970s, before considering either of those two.
Much better fit and finish. The .410s seldom turn up, however.

You canuck guys ever seen a Canadian Winchester 37? The Canadian company Cooey made them under license during the '60s. I have one which seems to have emigrated to the UK at some point since it has brummie proofs stamped on the barrel.

Yes, I have seen them Ontario-made 37As in: 20ga, 16ga, and 12ga. I would rate them equal to run of the mill Stevens.

Another decent single was Ithaca-Lefever single field gun. Working from memory they are about as common as Winchester Model 20.

I received an Ithaca M-66 .410 for Christmas when I was 12 yo- external hammer, lever action break open single shot.It was a great squirrel slayer!

That's a Winchester Model 20!
The Winchester Model 20 was produced from 1919 to 1927.
The total production reached approximately 24,000, only .410.
I'm thinking I want one.

Bob, your photo comparison is a stark contrast indeed.....
I bet you have got the M20 on the watch/wish list of half this forum's members.
No arguing the elegance of the M20 , sleek indeed, but my old man bought what the Mackey Company had in stock in 1957 in Abilene. He Never gave a thought to anything by Savage/Stevens....
After all Winchester had a reputation for "decent" guns, although he had no use for one, after all , he had the ultimate Bird Gun, a Sweet SixTeen solid rib Auto 5 , discussion closed..
And why? he would ask me some few years later, when the shotgun bug had bitten me hard at about 15 years of age "do you need more than one shotgun?" If you have a good "automatic" you had the best there was
