Probably the only time a heavier-recoil shell cured a flinch, Stan.

Probably so, John. But, I knew it wasn't recoil related anyway. I really think it was the better trigger that did the trick, but the heavier loads certainly didn't hinder the cure. To be frank, a 1280 fps one ounce load in a big gun like a 31 1/2" MX 8 feels like a pipsquak anyway.

Stan, Yes, it would be great if we could all get together and shoot at the Open, or any other shoot.

Many spectacular performances this year at the Nationals. I shot one squad ahead of Rick Mein in the K-Cup where he shot a perfect score. When Rick's on, he's really tough. As well, there were some prtetty spectacular scores posted by some young shooters - the future of clays looks pretty good. In particular, if you ever get a chance to meet Grace Callahan, take it. She's young, bubbly without a hint of ego, and she CAN shoot. An up and comer.

Bill - well, how appropriat that he follow his hall of fame induction with another national championship. I had a chance to sit and talk with him on Saturday, and he is a genuinely congenial man who loves to shoot and does it well.

Stan,

My longtime shooting bud mirrors the malady you had with flinching. He may flinch multiple times on one shot and then break the bird at some ridiculous distance or position. He's run the gamut on cures from release triggers to you name it. His MX 2000 has the best trigger I've ever tried, But he still hasn't found a cure. I guess I'll sneak some Roman Candles into his pouch and see if that helps. smile
As you stated, I'm dead sure his problem is not recoil related.

I doubt if they will help, Ken. That type of flinch is a dog, really frustrating. When I was struggling with it so badly I was walking with Jon Kruger one day between rounds at The Meadows, at a big tournament. I told him I needed him to help me with something. He asked what. I replied, "A bad flinch". He looked me in the eye and said, "Who the hell is going to help ME?" I did not know, until then, that Jon had struggled with a flinch for many years. He went to a release trigger several years ago and 100% cured it. But, as is typical with Jon, he uses it in an unorthodox way. He doesn't pull the trigger, then call "Pull!", then release it as most do. He calls "Pull!", then when he sees the bird he pulls it and releases it when the lead looks right. Glad I did not have to resort to a release.

As I said earlier, it still rears it's ugly head from time to time, but never as bad as it used to be. Maybe, like the apostle Paul said, it's my "thorn in the flesh". frown It is a very strange condition, but one thing that I have learned, positively, about it is this: If I am totally relaxed (carefree is the best term I can come up with) while shooting a round, it never occurs, and I always shoot my highest score, too. I never feel what you would call anxious, but those times when stress level from work is zero, my shooting buds better watch out ............ I'm hot, and I don't flinch. Go figger.
