Will a brass 20ga shell stand up to that kind of abuse? Black powder wads are routinely cut with a sharpened case.

Yes - Australia He just asked a couple folks to check around here for him. Doesn't live in the bush but is a tough old MFer and he prolly eats raw 'roo on a regler basis. Shoots a buncha old junker hammer SxS's.
I suspect that shipping would make those wads about 10x more expensive. Not to mention duty and VAT which the Empire is in love with.

I did get a small set of six simple gasket cutters from a car spares shop. By an odd chance three are of useful sizes; that is .410, 20 bore and 10 bore. Cheap too. Worth checking out a local car spares place. Lagopus.....
