Last week I bought a Stevens 225 as a parts gun. It is missing forend, one firing pin, both hammers and extractor link. After evaluating the barrels, I decided maybe I could fix it on a budget. I had an extra firing pin.

I also had some new hammers that were made for a Chinese double. But the mounting holes were too big and indexed about 20º out from where they needed to be. So I welded the holes shut, drilled a hole and then squared it out with Swiss file. I'll strip off the phosphate finish and polish down the rough ground surfaces.

A note on the screw. As with most of these old parts guns, the hammers and screws are missing. I took this old gun (minus the barrels) to my local Ace Hardware store and me and the helpful hardware guy looked through their gun screw assortment. We didn't find any that worked. We then went through the small SAE screws and none would work. The helpful hardware guy turned to the metric assortment and said, "Surely it's not metric.", and handed me a 4Mx7 screw. It was a perfect fit! 71 cents later I was out the door with a pair of screws. Not crazy about them being Philips head but at least I know what size they are.

I've got some stray forends but none would fit. I'll have to visit my old gun parts scrounger to see what he has.

I too have successfully used metric threaded screws on some of those odd thread sizes found on older guns.

I have also found M3 taps to come in handy in places you wouldn't expect. Please do replace those Philips heads though!
