I do cowboy action shooting with my old doubles loaded with black powder or BlackMZ. Even the 10+ pound 10 gauges get uncomfortable after 4 shots and too hot after 6. Of course they all have splinter forends.

It's the same with shooting black powder in handguns and rifles. I figure that's another reason the cowboys wore leather gloves.

I'm wondering if some smokeless powder loads generate less heat than others?
