A large metal "thumb" to block left-eye picture? Interesting.

I had hopes it emited a loud whistling noise when you shot the gun....designed to signal your dog on report.

Bob and gentlemen, this gun contains another feature that is pretty rare. The trademark of a stonemasons hammer and what I believe is a use number 419, is that of Henry Parsons, the patentee of chopperlump barrels. These are chopperlump damascus barrels. If you look closely at the picture of the forward lump, the joint can be seen.I would suggest the conical sight is an aftermarket addition as the makeup of the gun,the early pinfire style fences,non-rebounding locks and early patent extractor, suggest a date of manufacture closer to 1866-68. JMHO. Terry
Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought stupid, than open it and confirm.

Outstanding, guys. I logged off for a few hours and all my questions were answered, even one I wasn't smart enough to ask. You nailed it on the Sight Corrector. The picture is exactly the same as mine, except the plate has been broken off. Are chopper lump barrels rare on damascus? I don't see a joint line on the lumps, except for perhaps a half line on the front lump from the 4 back. I have attached a picture with the extractors off. It doesn't show much more but it is all I have right now. There is a piece dovetailed into the lug closest to the muzzle that is difficult to see from the top angle. Would that be original or a repair? I'll try to get better pictures and post them. Thanks again for all your help.

Williams and Powell of Liverpool sold a 12 G, hammer gun named the 'Simplex'. This gun was built to J. Williams patent #1247 of 1875. This patent included an extractor with twin external legs one each side of the barrel lumps. These legs slid in slots cut in the action bar; much the same as the Riley. Williams and Powell gun #7060 built to this patent was in my collection for many years.
