Geo, I was taught to try and line up two quail at a time for one shot on the covey flush. Once did it twice on the same covey flush shooting my 28 pump gun, then missed a single with the last shell. Swear I thought I could have a triple double that day. Must have been 20 plus birds in that covey. We had some big coveys on our farm in my youth. We have six coveys on the farm this year. Best numbers in 20 plus years. Took 16 birds off the farm on Monday.

Had a uncle who seemed to only kill cock quail when he shot. I am sure he killed a few hens but I can remember them. With a Crescent .410 he was as good as any hunter I ever knew with a 12. Rare were his misses. I have his .410 and found it was open and laser choked with eight to nine pound trigger pulls. I left it just as he had it but struggle to hit birds with heavy triggers.
