Bob, the line you see ahead of the 4 is part of the joint and I will attach a pic of the part I could see. I have a gun by Bales of Ipswich that has the same trademark etc.with a later use number.
I believe it dates to 1867-68.Again the joint is hard to see but
there.Choppperlump damascus is certainly not common, most have dovetail lumps.
